Stateline
The closest area to the NV/CA boarder on the south end of Lake Tahoe. Within close proximity to Harvey’s Lake Tahoe, Harrah’s Lake Tahoe, Hard Rock Hotel & Casino and the Montbleu. The town derived its name from several boundary disputes dating back to 187 when Von Schmidt surveyed the land and found the state border crossing HWY50 where the current Applebees Restaurant is. In 1893, the United States Coast and Geodic Survey attempted to change that boundary line when they decided it should be a few thousand fee further east. This decision nearly eliminated the entire town of Stateline. The name was then changed to Edgewood, NV also in 1893. However, in 1980, a Supreme Court ruling changed the name back to Stateline, NV and the contested part of the California mapping was dissolved into what is present day South Lake Tahoe.
